The Sanskrit word “Bhairava” means “terribly fearsome form” or “one who destroys fear”. Bhairav is considered a fierce form of Shiva as the personification of time (the root cause of all fear and destruction). “Batuka” means “boy”, thus Batuk Bhairav is considered a fierce manifestation of Shiva in the form of a five year old boy.
