How to Use the Nakshatra Calculator
This nakshatra calculator tells you the nakshatra (lunar constellation) for today at your location. It also provides a full panchanga (Sanskrit for “five limbs”), which shows five key aspects of time on any given day:
- Vara – the weekday
- Tithi – the phase of the Moon
- Nakshatra – the lunar asterism
- Yoga – the relationship of the Sun and Moon
- Karana – finer divisions of the lunar day, used for timing
You can also use this tool to look up the nakshatra at any specific time—such as the moment of your birth.
Steps to Find Today’s Nakshatra
- Enter today’s date in the “Date” section.
- Under “Place of Birth” (or location), enter your current city.
- Click “Get Result.”
Your results will display the full panchanga. To see today’s nakshatra, look under the section labeled “Nakshatra.” The first one listed is the nakshatra active at sunrise, which becomes the nakshatra of the day.
For example, you might see something like:
Ardra (Lord: Rahu) : 02:50 PM – 01:43 PM
- The first time given (02:50 PM) shows when the Moon entered that nakshatra (from the previous day).
- The second time (01:43 PM) shows when the Moon will leave it and enter the next nakshatra (which will be listed below).
