The Sanskrit word “Agni” (अग्नि) can be translated to mean “fire”, considered the medium through which offerings are carried to the Gods. Krittika nakshatra is connected with themes of power, transformation and precision. Krittika is often considered a star of fire or cutting as it gives one the ability to burn away impurities and cut through negativity to find the deepest and most accurate truth. Krittika natives have a talent for refining things in the pursuit of excellence. This asterism is symbolized by a sharp blade.
The ancient text Bhagavata Purana (Canto 2 Chapter 3 Texts 2-7) states tejas-kāmo vibhāvasum, which can be translated as “One who desires to become powerful, should worship fire”. Vibhāvasu is another name for Agni which also means “abounding in light”. The word for “power” used in this text is tejas which can also be translated as “light”, “radiance” or “splendor”.
According to the classical text on Vedic astrology Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, appeasing Agni remedies the planet Sun in the birthchart.
