The Sanskrit “Nirṛti” (निरृति) can be translated to mean “calamity” or “disorder”, and refers to the Vedic Goddess of destruction, decay and sorrow, who lives in the kingdom of the dead. Mula nakshatra is connected with themes related to philosophy, herbalism, pain, evil and misfortune. Especially those unfortunate experiences which destroy our material attachments through suffering and force us to turn toward the transcendent source (root) of reality. Mula is often considered the star of uprooting. This asterism is symbolized by a bundle of roots.
