The Sanskrit “Pitri” (पितृ) can be translated to mean “deceased ancestors” or “forefathers”. The ancient text Bhagavata Purana (Canto 2 Chapter 3 Text 8) states “tantuḥ tanvan pitṝn yajet”, which can be translated as “one who desires to continue the family line should worship the pitris”.

Magha nakshatra is connected with themes related to ancestral pride, power, leadership and loyalty. Magha is often considered the star of majesty or legacy. This asterism is symbolized by a royal throne.
